Physical Access to University Library Chelmsford

Travelling and parking information for the Chelmsford Campus can be found on the ARU Website.

Parking

Approach routes to the library from the car park have drop down kerbs and flat, well-lit paths. There are six disabled parking bays within 30 metres of the Library for Blue Badge holders, in the Queens car park.

If you intend to regularly use the Queens car park Blue Badge parking, contact Estates and they can assist you with ID card access.

Bus routes

Approach routes to the library from the bus stops have drop down kerbs and flat, well-lit paths. There are two bus stops within 100 metres of the Michael Ashcroft Building, which serve the Railway Station, Chelmsford town centre and the Chelmer Valley Park & Ride.

Building Access

Entrance to the library is via automatic external doors at the Michael Ashcroft Building and the Queens Building. Once inside the building, the library entrance has wheelchair accessible entry control gates which can be opened with a University ID or Library card and library staff are on hand to assist with any access issues.

Guide dogs and assistance dogs are permitted in the library.

Building Facilities

Hearing loops are installed at the Help desk and in the library teaching rooms.

Accessible Toilets

There are accessible toilet facilities within the main toilets by the ground floor entrance to the library, and there are also accessible toilets on the second floor of the library within the computer suite.

Lifts

The library has an internal lift to each floor and there are level thresholds throughout the building.

The lift is fire-safe in the event of an emergency.

The alternative stairwell has evacuation chairs, if the lift cannot be reached.
