There should be more drinking water dispensers in the library and there should be more than one in the whole library especially for situations like this.
There should one at the entrance and one on each floor! This should be part of the University Sustainability Strategy to save single use plastic.

I was in the library collecting some reserved books and there was a notice saying 'please recycle you rubber bands' but there was no where to recycle them. I presume the library can resuse them so would it make sense to have a pot to leave them in

Generally speaking the table surfaces doors windows around the library are dirty. Deep cleaning should be a priority for the University.

Is there any chance it could be accessible 24/7. This would enable people who work to study in the evenings and have a safe quite space to study.

QUE 117 for studying.
Can you please place a clear sign on the door advising people that this room is not to be used for group study.
Maybe the temptation of having two large sofas is too inviting, maybe they could be better placed on the ground floor for group study.
Also it appears the window has been locked with a key or requiring oiling so would be nice if this is sorted to allow some ventilation as it is rather warm in there.

- Becky 24/03/2022

The rooms which are closed until 5pm on weekdays are always empty, but we are still not allowed to use them.
Furthermore, they are usually opened on the weekend for students to use- but this has now changed, with all of them being locked.
There are no staff working in the library on the weekend so these study spaces should be opened for students.
It is extremely disappointing and very disheartening More >>

This year, this has been removed and it is really harder to concentrate on writing efficiently without them.
I am aware of the screens available in the library and the rooms/pods, but those do not help with keeping track with the work when we have two different screen sizes (first one being the laptop and the second is a very large screen).
I really hope this is considered since this is the final year of my program.

Attitude of library staff not good.

Also, the desks upstairs are really dirty - is it possible for them to be cleaned?

However, one piece of information on there is unclear - the list of information is presented e.g. :
Author, Initials., Year. Title of book. Edition. (only include this if not the first edition) Place of publication (this must be a town or city, not a country): Publisher.
To tell us how to correctly cite, the word 'author' is unclear. For many students, especially foreign nationals, 'author' does not make it clear that what is required is the 'SURNAME' of the author.

Is there any reason why the Chelmsford library doesn’t open until 21st September? Medics start on 7th September and won’t be able to use the School of Medicine building outside of lesson time. Therefore, we won’t have any space to study on campus. Please could you let the library team know as I know many medics will want to use the library space. We would be very grateful if you could open from 7th September please.
Many thanks in advance for your time and help.

Is there a place where I can access a computer before 08:30am?
Thank you!

I am emailing to query whether all the emails associated with library booking will begin with the username black hole as the name is quite "dark". As a result I have accidentally thought that emails from this address contain a virus and would like to know if Anglia Ruskin would look into a different username.

Many thanks and it would be lovely to hear updates regarding this matter.

My question is - suppose I drive all the way from the other side of the country to pick up this book and someone else takes it out minutes before I get to the library??
I've never heard such a ridiculous system - this is not the way any other library I've used operates. The title is reserved whether it's at the library I wish to collect it at or not.
As is stands, the fact I could feasibly request it to go to a different campus, then NOT pick it up there, only to request it's More >>

It would be nice to have disinfecting wipes available so desk surfaces and keyboards can be wiped down especially since this is dissertation and final exam season; this can help the prevention of germs spreading around making students sick.
The top floor of the library is extremely hot and stuffy; if fans can be provided esp for exam season, this would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

'The library services are generally good especially the online library. It is a very useful resource as it can be assessed anywhere. I have just a request, the textbooks for criminal law are a bit out of date, especially the recommended and essential text book. It is not even available in the library - Jonathan Herring 'Criminal law text cases and materials' 18th edition Oxford University Press 2018.

Excellent job, nice place. Some more water dispensers could be lovely.

'The library is an excellent resource. In an ideal world the video library would have Bluray versions wherever available but I am a visually-literate "nerd" and know that this is not a big deal for most people.'

‘There are a lot of nursing subjects for which articles are not available at ARU, eg BJOG’

“I don’t believe the library is even big enough to accommodate all students, during exam time and coursework time there’s no real order in the library it’s loud and almost impossible to work. I complete the majority of my work in Marconi. Also Students that are working hard in the library shouldn’t have to leave their work and lose concentration to travel over to the prayer room to pray, this makes no sense and is particularly unfair during the winter. There should be a designated area in the library for prayers or at least in lord aschroft. 'Hi, I'm studying Children's Book Illustration and I've been thinking that the collection of illustrated books in the library can be improved. I don't expect the library to have every book that is published in the UK. However, as it is a university library which supports Postgraduates as well as Undergraduates, it would be fair to hope to access awarded books, critically important books and example books in frequently-read critical research (at least those in reading lists, and hopefully those recently printed ones too). I also use the Cambridge University library and the public library for the resource. But in the ideal world, I would love to use our uni library more fully, as I am a student at ARU where the art and More >>

Happy environment, very helpful staff, well managed library equipments. We might need a free tea and coffee machine selfhelp service after 8pm because the Library is open sometimes 24 hours. Coffee and tea will keep us awake while studying late hours ( good for future doctors and nurses who like studying late in the evening or during the night). :) please!

I'm quite happy with all the system in general, my only complaint is about the fact that there is no one to replace the paper in the printers during the night, which makes it quite difficult when you are in the middle of printing something. I would suggest having a night staff member or maybe allow the security guard to do it!

Tapping in every time and also it being tracked is a major concern for privacy reasons. A student could choose to access information from his room but still would be seen as not attending the library. I see no actual need for this kind of actions.

'Request for buying new books takes a long time and I don't know the progress and when it will be available in the library.'

I am a full time student and using the uni library almost 5 to 6 days a week for for long hours. I would like to bring to the notice that on second floor it is quite cold. I know there is some issues with the windows but heaters are not working either.
As weather is dropping to 3 to 4 degrees I think it is not safe weather for students and some actions should be taken on it.

I'm currently procrastinating and thought I would leave a thank you comment.
I've never studied at Anglia Ruskin, having done my undergrad in Media, Culture and Society at Abertay University and now a MSc in International Relations at University of Dundee, but your Harvard guide is my go-to guide for referencing.
I've needed to reference a variety of sources, such as Lena Dunham's Girls during my dissertation, YouTube videos, or obscure undated Marxist texts - I would have been lost without your guide so thank you very much! Right, I better get back to my essay!

I really love the fact that if for some reason you forget your purse at home (with your student ID card and bank card to pay for a new student ID card) that you can still use (some) of the library facilities. I say some as this was exactly my predicament this morning, loosing my purse on the train. I still managed just to get into the library with a temporary access card (which was a life saver at the time), only to find I couldn’t take out any of the books I came into the library for without my original student card, so left back to London empty handed!
I think there should be some way to take out books on loan without your actual student card. Your student ID maybe? Or using one of the temporary access cards under your name?

I love this library - this is why I spend so much time in here. But is there any possibility to close the windows in the evenings hours? It's getting really cold in hear and I am sitting in the second with a huge and really warm sweater and really it's getting cold. Feels like winter is coming... Or could I ask the security staff to close the windows?
That would be really nice.

Monday 00:01 to 8 AM
Saturday 00:01 to 10 AM
Sunday 00:01 to 10 AM
There are 2 Security People from Monday to Thursday from 9 pm onwards, while during the weekends until Midnight there is only 1 Security Person.
Why do you not just have 1 Security Person and open the Library for the extra 26 hours cover that the Library is closed and this would be cost neutral for the University.
Students require access to study areas as it is nearly Exam and Coursework submission time.
I have had a look online and couldnt find another UK University that does not have a 24/7 Library.

Can you please advise if Library will be open ( or access to PC's) over the Christmas period.
The hand in date for ALL students at the University is the 8 or 9th January 2018.
It really is important that students are given access to a Study Area during this period. Most universities have 24/7 accesss prior to hand in dates. The issue getting to alternative University libraries is travel during this period.
Please advise further on what arrangements are in place for this years Study Leave period.

I think on the whole, library facilities are pretty good, and the staff are even better.
My one general piece of feedback, and something I hope you can remedy soon, is that the majority of computers I sit down to work at are very dirty. The desks, keyboards and screens alike.
I think critical feedback is important for everyone, and I think this is something you guys could work on as a team. Although, as I said, generally things work great.
I would like to mention that I received help from an amazing woman who works at the library help desk (Cambridge), I didn't catch her name. I think she was American, and if not, sounded as though she was (apologies if that is insulting). It would be great if you could pin point the More >>

I appreciate that it is holiday time for staff however it is the busiest time for us as assessments for Semester 1 for nearly all 20,000 of us are due on January 4th as well as Exams starting that week.
Find it quite strange that you do not consider the study patterns of students especially those who may be at placement or those who have children and cannot study at home.
For a university of this sized to be closed on Monday at 8am as well as at 9.30 am on Saturdays says a lot. Is it possible that while the help desk is open that someone could come round and patrol the library occasionally? I've just been sat next to two women in the quiet zone who, while admittedly weren't shouting, were chatting constantly, eating, and clearly weren't there to work (they seemed to be just using the computer to charge their phones while they had a natter). This is a real problem pretty much all the time, and in all parts of the library. The ground floor seems to just be a social club, the first floor usually has one or two people in it who have lower standards for what constitutes as quiet, and the silent area is frequently plagued by people who don't seem to understand the concept of silence at all. I would ask them to quiet down myself, but the times I have More >>
