Queen's building ground floor reopening 10th February

08 February 2021

The hoardings are coming down on 10th February as work is completed on the exciting new student centre on the ground floor of Queen's building. Please bear with us as we move offices, helpdesk and self-service machines. These services may be unavailable for a short time while we move.

How do I get into the library?

The main ground floor entrance will be open again and the temporary entrance/exit at the side of the building will revert to fire exits only. Please remember, due to the national lockdown, you should not travel unless absolutely necessary. If you do come on to campus, you must always wear a face covering and follow social distancing guidelines.

How does the one-way system work?

The one-way system is still in place and this means the stairs on the entrance side are for going UP to the library with access to the lift only for those who need it.

The stairs on the Sawyers side of the building are for going DOWN to exit the library.
Access to the upper floors of the library is by card access only. Please tap your card as you go up and as you come down. This data will be used for test and trace purposes.

Where is the helpdesk?

The helpdesk is the large desk on the left of the ground floor entrance area as you enter the student centre.

Where do I borrow or return items?

Please remember to borrow your books using the self-service machine on the ground floor before leaving the building. You can return items here too.

Can I still come in and study?

Yes! Distanced study spaces are clearly marked, and remember we are open for individual study only at the moment.

Can I use the new rooms and booths on the ground floor?

Yes! The rooms and booths can be used for individual study. Some of these will be bookable.

Where do I pick up my request?

You can pick up your requests on the first floor. Please remember to borrow your books using the self-service machine on the ground floor before you leave.

Can I still return books at the outside book drop?

Yes! Or you can use the self-service returns machine on the ground floor as you come in.

What if the book I want isn't on the shelf?

When you search online in Library Search for the book, you will see a link to request it, we'll email you when it's ready to pick up.

Can I browse and find a book myself?

Yes! You will get the item more quickly if you can browse and borrow.

Can I access library resources and help online?

Yes! Many of our resources and our expert staff are available to help you via our website which makes it easier to access the assistance you need without having to travel to campus. Please only come to campus if it’s absolutely necessary.
