Unique resources and how to access them...

The library has a number of unique resources but with less than straight forward access. See below for instructions, you might find something special!

Architecture/Interior Design 

Architects Journal, AJ Buildings Library and AJ Specification 

The AJ helps you to keep up to date with all the latest news, building studies, expert opinion, cultural analysis and business intelligence from the UK architecture industry. Our subscription also includes access to the AJ Building Library, an inspiring collection of 2500 detailed building projects including photos, project data and drawings available to download. AJ Specification contains information about the innovative use and practical implementation of materials and products in the industry through case studies, product focused features and analysis. 

While access is provided by ARU Library you will need to register individually for AJ and AJ Building Library in order to view their content using the following instructions:  

  • Once completed, click on Library from the top menu and use the same email and password to get access to the full content from AJ Building Library. 

  • If you experience any issues with accessing AJ or AJ Building Library, please contact your Subject Librarian Kari Morley.  

Digimap

This online map service provided users with access to detailed maps of the UK. Our subscription includes access to the Ordnance Survey maps as well as historic, geological, environmental, marine, and global data. 

Click on the Digimap link under Find Online on the library record. To access the section you wish you view, click on the heading from the menu bar at the top and then select the option to “Roam” from the right side of the screen. The first time you use any of the Digimap products you will be prompted to agree to the “Digimap Collections Licence Agreements” so please select the one you wish you view and accept the licence terms and conditions. This will remember you for your next visit but does need to be renewed each year.

Strengthen your professional network with free membership to the UK's largest art community. Keep up to date with blogs, news, jobs and events.  

Log in via University details (Shibboleth) for general access using the library link to a-n

Register for personal membership for additional access to the online community, allowing you to post blogs, network and view job opportunities. You must sign-up from off campus by going to https://www.a-n.co.uk/register-student . Select the option to register as a student and within the description where it says: "Check here for a full list of current JISC university licence holders", follow the link and you will see a list of universities and their discount codes. Use ARU code to register. 

Books/publishing 

The Bookseller 

Providing business intelligence and analysis of the book trade; The Bookseller is the trade magazine of the book industry since 1858. 

Full access to the website requires registration at http://www.thebookseller.com/user/register . Please use your aru e-mail address when registering so they know to associate you with the Anglia Ruskin account. The Bookseller will then provide you with a personal login 

Use your surname and account number (see My Account) to access current and archived full copies, see page 11 of the user guide for full details.

Business 

FT.com 

Get full access to The Financial Times online, follow the library link FT.com (under Find Online) and register with your ARU email address on first use. Next time you use FT.com sign in with your email address and the site will give you an option for SSO Sign in, click on this for full access. You may be prompted to enter your usual ARU username and password.   

Engineering/Music/Sound 

AES Library  

Audio Engineering Society library documenting audio research from 1953 onwards. The database includes every AES paper published at conventions, conferences and in The Journal of the Audio Engineering Society.  

Access via the library link to AES Electronic Library (under Find Online). You can search the AES library off campus but can only download papers when on campus. You can use the Remote Desktop to mimic being on campus and therefore enable the downloads.  

Health/Medicine 

BMJ Best Practice 

A point of care, clinical decision-making tool. Includes updates, medical specialities, calculators, patient leaflets, videos and evidence resources. 

To access, go to BMJ Best Practice and follow the link under Find Online. If you are a new user, select access though your institution and then complete the (free) registration form to create a personal account with your email and a password you create.  Once you are registered, you can access it with this personal account.  

LWW Health Library 

A collection of 50 health/medical ebooks on a range of essential topics including anatomy, dissection, physiology, pathophysiology, biochemistry and physical examination.  

To access, go to LWW Health Library and follow the link under Find Online. Go to ‘sign in’ (top right) and choose the shibboleth option in the pop-up box.  From the ‘Federation’ drop-down menu, choose ‘UK Access Management Federation’. From the ‘Institution’ drop-down menu choose Anglia Ruskin University. Click on ‘select’. Login with your normal university login and password if prompted.  

Medical Embryology Animations 

An online resource with videos on embryology. Linked to the book Sadler, T.W. 2019. Langman’s Medical Embryology. 14th ed. Philadelphia: Wolters Kluwer.

Access via the library link to Medical Embryology Animations (under Find Online). You can view the resource on campus, to view it off campus use the Remote Desktop. The Remote Desktop mimics on campus access so you can view the resource.

Journal of Paramedic Practice and other health MA Health Care Journals 

Off campus access requires following Shibboleth login. Following the link under Find Online to Journal of Paramedic Practice which states MA Healthcare Complete, once in the MAG Online Library screen for the journal, select Login/Register in the top right-hand corner.  Select Institutional login, then Anglia Ruskin University from the drop-down menu. This should the take you to the journal for view the full text of articles.
